...........anyone know the trick to getting KDX175 front brakes to work.......even a little bit ??

The trick years ago was to fit a PE175 front brake cable. Some modifications were required to the hub to fit the much thicker cable. At the time my brakes were better than the XR200 running around at the time. The xr200 had good brakes. Further you should check using chalk of blue die how much of the brake pads make contact with the hub. Sometimes it was less than 50 percent.
There is scope to have the brake working okay.

Make sure the cam is clean and well greased, and as you do the axle up, spin the wheel backwards, pull on the brake lever hard and snug up the axle nut without letting go, this helps centre the shoes.

rough up the shoes and the hub with a little wet and dry paper.
