Author Topic: LITTLE PEARLER '89 DT175  (Read 2638 times)

The other day i took delivery (thanks to NathanS) of this lovely little 1989 DT175, i know they're not the most exiting bike in the world and never really won anything except the hearts of many farmers and learner riders but i reckon its an absolute gem of bike. Come from the original owner and only done just shy of 3000k in its entire life, its pretty much perfect in every way!! It's hard to believe this thing is soon to qualify for club reg in just a year and a bit, in my opinion this colour scheme with the gold wheels is the best looking of all of '84-/04 DT175's. Other than the introduction of a disc front around /01? the bikes remained unchanged for 20 years, gotta say something about it i reckon, if there's nothin wrong em then why change em!  Wink Again i know they're pretty much a soft "enduro" agi bike but im sure you can all appreciate a bike of its age in such lovely condition just as much as i do.  Smiley

I brought the 84 model I liked the blue colour, really ugly headlight surround and rear guard tailight, not sure what there good for ? my 81 DT crapped all over it for power,  but your bike looks great  Smiley so how long before you sell it  Grin  Grin as I know bikes go passed your fingers like JD's do  Grin  Cheesy

Your a long time dead, so get out there and enjoy yourself while you still can :-) would loved to have been able to race vintage enduro bikes in Victoria, but sadly that as yet has not happened, so many blokes would have loved to be able to race, owell shit loads of us still have the memory's of racing enduro bikes back in the late 70's and 80's, time to move on to other things I guess :-) but if racing classes for vinduro bikes start then I will dust off my bike and be out there racing my old bike as that is what it was made for ( Racing )

   I have seen that bike befor . It shared a ride to Cooka with some KTMs .

   I could not get over how good that bike is Its like New and travel around  100km a year its as good as New ...

  you are lucky to find a bike like that in that good of nick...

That is a nice looking bike. I have a soft spot for the humble old trailies. Those little DTs were (are) a great looking bike, though I think the black colour scheme looked the best.

Who can argue with that simple, reliable, versatile design? Like you said, it must’ve worked for Yamaha to keep building them the same way for so many years. I reckon they sold a lot of them too.

My brother owned one back in the 80s for farm/trail use, and there’s occasionally one parked in the CBD car park I use that someone is obviously riding as a commuter. Same basic bike, doing two different roles, more than 20 years apart. How many models can you say that about? Not to mention the ones that we see being ridden enthusiastically at vinduros!

Sure, they were never a race-winning enduro bike, but that was never their intention.

Back in the early 90s I also remember reading in the local paper about a young French woman who was  riding one of these DTs around Australia. She looked a lot cuter on a DT175 than you ever will rookie!

It would almost be a shame to see this one being punted around the bush, seeing as it is in such good condition.

so how would that go with the run on in vinduros a brand new bike that is the same as a bike in the early 80s and before just different colours  Huh? Huh? Grin

I put the question to Draky re 2000+ XR 200's which are basically the same as 1983 models. drum brakes single cam.
