The original shape was around until about 2005 I reckon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they didn't make them for about ten years in the middle (while they were faffing about with stuff like the KLE500) but then re-introduced the original bike in the early-00s.
Then they got the update in '06 or 07 or thereabouts.

The updated model has less suspension travel, but the suspension is supposed to work better.

I just got back from the local Kawaka Dealer and I can get one for $8,500 ride away 2010 model the 2011 model is arriving soon with the only change being the colour on the side shroud is going to silver, Nathan your right about the suspension is lower but is better there got bigger forks and and better springs, there is nothing fancy about them there just allround reliable bikes from what I can see and have been reading.

Dont think I would buy a new one as there is a few getting about that have done less than 2,000K's for $5,500 to $6,000 I will think about it some more over the next few months, in the mean time I want to find out were they get those side bar protectors because the Kawaka Shop said they cant get them  Huh? I would have thought it would be something they could get,,,he said maybe from over sea's and I was like nah surely someone here imports these as I have seen a lot of bikes with them.

Cheers Mick.

Your a long time dead, so get out there and enjoy yourself while you still can :-) would loved to have been able to race vintage enduro bikes in Victoria, but sadly that as yet has not happened, so many blokes would have loved to be able to race, owell shit loads of us still have the memory's of racing enduro bikes back in the late 70's and 80's, time to move on to other things I guess :-) but if racing classes for vinduro bikes start then I will dust off my bike and be out there racing my old bike as that is what it was made for ( Racing )

Yes i think your are right Nathan, im sure they were off the market then re-introduced them here again. Thats what i was told anyway.
The forks on the current model are also a few mm bigger than the 80's/90's models. the guy i done work for had a WR500 shock on his old one when it had a sidecar on it, so it must of bolted in fairly easily.

Mick i fitted those side crash bars to a new one, i was led to believe they are a Kawasaki accessory. Im pretty sure the owner got them from here as thats where he got the bike. http://www.sadirtbikes.com/ If you googled KLR650 crash bars you would find them.

You can also buy alloy bash plates for them to replace the stock plastic one.

I thought you would be able to, our Kawaka Dealer here is pretty hopless really, I was trying to look at the name on the bars in the link at the start of this post but I can not make out the name on them, I might be going blind though, can anyone else work out what it says on them?

Cheers Mick.
