Well I have not ridden the KLX for about 4 months and I thought I would get it out of the shed to fix the flat tyre and give it a run, but when I went to move it the steering was rough as so I thought I better pull her down and check things out.

It took me about 20 mins and I had it all pulled apart and I soon found out why it was hard to steer, a total lack of grease and plenty of dirt, after cleaning and repacking the bearings I started to put it back together and then took a couple of photo's I will get it finished tomorrow then I might pull the rear end apart and give it a regrease aswell.

Cheers Mick.

Your a long time dead, so get out there and enjoy yourself while you still can :-) would loved to have been able to race vintage enduro bikes in Victoria, but sadly that as yet has not happened, so many blokes would have loved to be able to race, owell shit loads of us still have the memory's of racing enduro bikes back in the late 70's and 80's, time to move on to other things I guess :-) but if racing classes for vinduro bikes start then I will dust off my bike and be out there racing my old bike as that is what it was made for ( Racing )

If the front was dry, the rear will be for sure. All the rear link pivots are a lot more exposed to water/dirt than the steering bearings.

Update, I got it back together and did not like it so it has been pulled apart again and I was going to buy the bottom bearing only as the top one is in perfect condition, but they wanted nearlly $40.00 for one bearing and so I went somewhere else and they will sell the kit 2 bearings & seals for $60.00 so I ordered it.

Top bearing looks perfect but since the kit is so cheap I will replace it to

Bottom bearing after looking very closely I spotted some pitting

I knocked off the bottom bearing with a punch and hopefully the new bearing kit arrives tomorrow and I will get it all back together ready for Benalla Vinduro as it is going to be my camera taking transport, I like the push button  Grin  Cheesy

Then next week I will pull the arse end apart and see how ( Good-Bad ) that all looks hopefully not stuffed.
